It has now been confirmed that Android Ice Cream Sandwich will be compatible with gaming controllers via a USB port.
We already new that Android 4.0 would be able to support HDMI-output, but we were unsure whether a gaming controller would be able to be connected. Romain Guy, who works on Android, tweeted that the Galaxy Nexus would be compatible with gamepads.
“With Android 4.0 you can use USB gamepads and HDMI to turn your Galaxy Nexus into a video games console!”
What this potentially means is that users could technically turn their phone into a games console by hooking it up to the TV via HDMI and then plugging in a gaming controller.
Android Ice Cream Sandwich features a whole range of new features. The most unique being features such as face-recognition unlock and Android Beam which uses NFC to send files between Android 4.0 phones.
