Angry Birds Space set to be released on March 22nd

    Matt - March 8th, 2012 4:31 PM

Angry Birds, with over 700 million app downloads to date, is one of the most popular and successful iOS and Android apps since its launch in 2009. Well, another addition is set to hit our smartphones and tablets on March 22nd; and it’s called Angry Birds Space.

As the name blatently suggests, it’s set in space. So what will this new addition feature?

According to Rovio, who made the announcement with the assistance of NASA, from the International Space Station, the new Angry Birds Space will bring new gameplay styles and a whole range of new “angry birds”.

“We focused on every detail in development of Angry Birds Space to build a special experience for our fans,” says Peter Vesterbacka, CMO of Rovio Entertainment. “I believe we have succeeded well with the game, and we wanted to create something as unique around our launch events. NASA has been the perfect partner for our Angry Birds Space programme, and we can’t wait to work with them on creating more compelling educational experiences.”

Rovio claim that the latest addition promotes learning and physics through playing the game. That’s quite a claim for a game that involves you chucking birds at constructions so that you can find all of your stolen eggs.

An official Rovio spokesperson said of the new title, “By taking the game galactic, Angry Birds Space retains the familiar elements of Angry Birds gameplay but gives them a unique twist in a variable gravity environment.”

“From the weightlessness of space to the gravity wells of nearby planets, fans can have fun with physics as they try out new gameplay possibilities. The Angry Birds themselves have also transformed into superheroes, with new costumes and abilities.”

The new addition to the Angry Birds franchise is set to launch on March 22nd on iOS, Android, Mac and PC.
