Activision has announced details of its new Call of Duty: Elite service which is a social networking and content distribution system for the Call of Duty titles. If you wish to subscribe to the premium version it will cost you $49.99 (approx £40). At first i was like “Jog on” but then i realised you get access to over 20 pieces of downloadable content per year, which includes new maps, new game features and missions for the Spec Ops mode. The DLC will still be available to people not purchasing this service but the Elite subscribers will get the content before anyone else.

People who will be purchasing the ‘Hardened Edition’ of MW3 will get a years subscription too Call of Duty: Elite as part of the package. The Elite service will also let you enter daily competitions which you can win in game and real world prizes including GADGETS!!!. CEO of Activision has said “Elite members will get to level up their clans by competing together in tournaments and competitions, Everything you love about levelling up as an individual player, Premium Elite members can do as a clan. It’s like your own fantasy football team inside Call of Duty: Elite except the players you’re counting on are your own friends.” Which i think is awesome!

Elite Subscribers are getting access to something called Elite TV, its an online channel of Call of Duty content produced by well known film and TV names. They say there will be around two weekly shows set to air later this year. The social connectivity feature will be free to all people who purchase MW3, this will let you do things such as search for people with the same interests, came from the same school, someone that supports your football team etc, so you can define the players you want to play with or simply find a enemy that supports a different football team to you.

Also they are creating iOS and Android applications which will allow players to access Elite on the go. This lets app users view their statistics on recent games as well as change their custom classes and load outs, this will all be saved online and be loaded as you switch on your console.
