The membership of Facebook has passed the 250 million mark, this latest milestone figure increases its lead over other social networking sites by an even larger extent.

However what’s truely amazing is Facebook’s growth rate, three months ago Facebook had 200 million members. While growth has slowed in the USA, Facebook is still getting a large number of new members from the rest of the world.

Facebook is currently used by 4% of the global population, meaning that were all the members of Facebook in one country, it would be the fourth most populated country in the world, right after China, India and the US.

Many people attribute this recent growth to the large number of people using Facebook on their mobile devices.
