HMV unveils new online film service

Highstreet and online retailer HMV have just announced its new online and on-demand movie service called HMVOn-Demand.
The service, which is powered by FilmFlex who are also the company that Virgin media and Film4 use, is the retailers first attemps at creating an online streaming service.
Mark Hodkinson, marketing an eCommerce director of the HMV group, said: “With a growing number of consumers now incorporating video-on-demand into their viewing and purchasing habits, the time is right to include a digital service into our own offer.”
The struggling retailer saw profits drastically drop this year after pre-tax profits of £67.3m dropped to just £2.6m in 2011.
Unfortunately, the service is not available on mobile devices yet, but if the service takes off then we might see some updates later in the brand new streaming service’s, hopefully long, life.
With the likes of Netflix, iPlayer, LoveFilm and many more, is there really room for another online streaming service? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
