The unreleased game Minecraft, created by swedish software firm Mojang, which allows users to construct anything the user can imagine out of building blocks, has scooped up a GameCity Prize.
Minecraft has won the first ever Game City Prize in the new award category at GameCity6.
The new category was set up to recognise the art of video games and the winner was announced at the finale of the event, held in Nottingham.
Even though Minecraft is still in the beta stage of its development, the game has over 15 millions registered users and nearly 4 million have purchased the game, available for £13.95 via the Minecraft website.
The judges for the GameCity Prize included actor and writer Charlie Higson, Blur drummer Dave Rowntree and rock band You Me At Six.
The game managed to beat all of its competition, which included games from big publishers such as Electronic Arts and Microsoft.
