Mobile network O2 have launched the trial of its brand new VOIP service that will enable customers to make free phone calls and texts over Wi-Fi.
The service is will initially be available on iOS and Android, and will be granted to customers through O2 Connect. The select 1000 customers chosen will be able to connect to any Wi-Fi network to use the free service.
Richard Porter, Head of Consumer Mobile Products, O2 said, “This trial will allow us to explore the potential of delivering VoIP services to customers. We hope to launch O2 Connect as a commercial service in 2012.”
Even though customers will be able to use the new service for free in the UK, it will not work with international communication.
Trials are set to begin in October, by invitation only unfortunately, with the service scheduled to be publicly available in 2012.
