Nintendo records first annual loss in 30 years as 3DS struggles
Matt - October 28th, 2011 9:30 AM
The hugely popular games console manufacturer Nintendo have announced that because of the struggle to sell the innovative 3DS games console, they will see a loss of £578 million in the first half of the 2011/2012 financial year. This will be the first annual loss in 30 years for the Nintendo.
The financial year will close in March 2012 and Nintendo has announced that it made a loss of 70.2 billion yen (£578 million) in the first half.
This figure is incredibly high compared with the 2 billion yen (£16.5 million) loss that was recorded in the same period last year.
With Christmas just around the corner, Nintendo are hoping everyone will be rushing out to buy the glasses-free 3D games console the Nintendo 3DS to give to loved ones.
“Sales of Nintendo DS hardware and Nintendo 3DS software were weaker than expected,” the company said. “In addition, the yen appreciation was beyond expectation.”
