No splitscreen multiplayer for Battlefield 3
Matt - October 17th, 2011 10:20 AM
DICE’s Createive Director Lars Gustavsson, the company behind Battlefield 3, have explained in a recent interview why Battlefield 3 won’t have splitscreen multiplayer.
Gustavsson was asked why Battlefield 3 has no offline splitscreen multiplayer, when games such as Halo and Call of Duty include it.
He responded with, “Overall I would say I love splitscreen, maybe at some point we’ll do it but we have a new engine, and usually the best recipe for ruining a project is trying to do everything. We’d rather deliver a really good gaming experience and then look forward. I think, for example, our co-op is really solid so it doesn’t feel like it’s missing the split-screen and therefore I think that we’re coming out with a really strong game, and that’s number one. Then we can look down the road and see what’s up next.”
So, as much as we all love splitscreen multiplayer, it looks like it won’t be joining us in Battlefield for the forseeable future. It appears that DICE would have to lower the game quality to enable such a feature so we’ll have to make do for now.
Battlefield 3 is set for release on October 25th for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Will you be buying it? Let us know in the comments section below.
