OnLive cloud gaming service hits UK
Rhys - September 22nd, 2011 5:02 PM
OnLive has finally launched in the UK, over a year later than it was released in the US. The gaming service allows gamers to play video games over the internet on remote servers, therefore not needing a high performance computer or games console.
OnLive is currently being run with BT and requires a 1mB or more internet connection and works on any tablet, PC, notebook or internet-connected TV. However, for large screen resolutions such as on a full HD TV, a minimum speed of 5MB is needed.
“For the first time ever, UK gamers can take advantage of OnLive’s powerful cloud gamingtechnology to play the latest top-tier games on demand, with gameplay delivered instantly over the Internet wherever and whenever they want,” wrote the Founder, Steve Perlman in a blog post.
“For the cost of a single-platform game purchase, UK gamers can play on their HDTV, PC, Mac or any combination of the above, regardless of performance capabilities.”
As the service is run on remote servers, the specifications of your system can be very low as all it’s effectively doing is streaming a video, this also means what platform / OS you play on isn’t an issue at all. Finally, gaming on the Mac!
