PlayStation 3 accounts for 10% of iPlayer views

Whilst the PS3 3.0 firmware update brought an exciting number of new features to the console, by far the most successful has to be the direct link to BBC iPlayer from the XMB.

This is proving to be very exciting for both the BBC and Sony, Anthony Rose from the BBC had this to say:  "User response to our new iPlayer for PS3 has been amazing, [it] now accounts for a massive 10 per cent of all iPlayer viewing."

What this means is that the PS3 has now overtaken the Mac as the platform on which to watch BBC iPlayer, the Mac has 8.5% of online viewers, but the leader is clearly Virgin Media which accounts for around a third of all iPlayer views.

An obviously enthused Rose said about the PS3 iPlayer uptake: "We’ll have to wait and see whether this holds up in the coming weeks, but this enthusiastic reception makes it clear that users do want iPlayer on their TV – something that bodes well for Canvas and other IPTV propositions."
