Jyvaskyla, Finland – Independent game developer group Touch Foo today released a free version of its highly acclaimed 2D platforming game “Soosiz”. In Soosiz, the player assumes the role of a hero, running and jumping around different surfaces and obstacles, rescuing his friends, killing monsters and collecting coins. Since its release in October, Soosiz has received glowing reviews by critics and many have already titled it as one of the best platforming games for the iPhone and iPod touch.

The game has been inspired by many classic platformers, but the traditional gameplay in Soosiz is spiced up by a changing gravity. Each platform has its own gravity, which allows the player character to run at the bottom of the platforms as well as on top of them. This allows for interesting level design and gameplay elements, which make the player to look for totally new kinds of solutions.

“The most important design aspect of Soosiz has been to achieve excellent playability,” said Ville Mäkynen, one of the founders of Touch Foo. “We experimented with several iPhone-style control schemes like accelerometer and slide-to-move controls, but they couldn’t match the precision and simplicity of classical button controls. This is why we chose to use a control system similar to platformers on other devices, but simplified it by having only the left, right and jump keys. Especially for a fast-paced game like Soosiz, this has worked very well.”
