Rovio, the software company behind the bird-flinging app sensation Angry Birds, has released a video showing that the highly addictive game has now been downloaded more than half a billion times across all platforms.
Angry Birds made its way onto our smartphones back in 2009 via the Apple App store and found instant success. The simple concept, of flinging birds at different structures to kill the pigs, is something that’s taken the world by storm.
The app is now available to download on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Mac, Android and Windows Phone 7, and comes in a variety of different formats including Seasons and Rio.
Rovio’s Chief Marketing Officer, Peter Vesterbacka, announced yesterday that Angry Birds shops would be opening in China over the next 12 months.
The app has been touted as the best selling mobile game in the world after selling 500 million copies of the game, this news comes just weeks after Rovio reported hitting the 400 million milestone.
