The first smartphone to be delivered with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, has been reported to have outperformed the Apple iPhone 4S. Don’t get too excited though, the Galaxy Nexus only outperforms the 4S in browsing, not graphics.

The new Google phone was put through a variety of different browser benchmarks including Sunspider Javascript Benchmark 0.9.1 and Rightware Browsermark scoring top of the class with 98,272, compared with the second place Apple iPhone 4S‘ score of 87,841.

The Motorola Droid RAZR came in 3rd with a slightly lower score of 85,271.

Obviously, it’s clear by looking at the chart below that the Galaxy Nexus, iPhone 4S and Motorola Droid RAZR are the ones to beat here, with all having at least a 30,000 point lead over other smartphones including the Samsung Galaxy S 2, Motorola Atrix 4G and Apple iPhone 4.

Although these stats look impressive, remember that these results just mean that the Galaxy Nexus appears to display web pages faster than the other leading smartphones.

The Galaxy Nexus was definitely put through its paces in the graphics department though, but unfortunately failed to score very well coming in 4th place with a score of 29.3, compared with the Apple iPhone 4S’ score of 73.1.
