Sempron 140 Unlocks to Athlon II X2

The latest processor from AMD to carry the Sempron label is proving that AMD have a thing their CPUs. It happened with their range of triple-core processors and now it seems they’ve done it with the new Sempron 140, you can quite easily unlock it to provide access to an extra core.
The Sempron 140 is sold as a cheap, single core processor and is based on the Sargas core which in turn is just a crippled Regor dual-core. To enable the extra core and convert your Sempron 140 to an Athlon II X2 you need a motherboard that has an AMD SB710 or SB750 southbridge that supports ACC (Advanced Clock Calibration). By enabling this feature in the BIOS setup program, the system will be able to address both processor cores.
What this all means is that you can get a cheap, overclockable, dual core, 2.7GHz processor for around £27/$39/€29.
