With all the news about upcoming products from a certain fruit based company, some of you have forgotten that there are actually other companies out there! Sony haven’t had a great year this year with PSN going offline in a spectacular way, but they’re back with the next generation of portable PlayStation, the Sony PlayStation Vita, and it looks brilliant!

It’s called, PlayStation Vita, and is going to be the successor to the PSP Go.

vita 290x163 Sony PlayStation Vita To Be Released December 17th

Featuring a 5-inch 960 x 544p OLED display (we couldn’t expect anything less from Sony, right?!), as well as launching in both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G formats, it’s sure to get everyone excited.

Sporting two analogue sticks, much like the PlayStation controllers, the Vita is also loaded with a three-axis gyroscope just like we’ve become accustomed to on Apple’s iDevices and also front and rear cameras!

I feel that the biggest and most advanced feature is the huge touch panel mounted on the back, presumably going to be used for various moves in game or perhaps gestures for navigating the Vita software?!

The launch date for the PlayStation Vita is December 17th, this is only for Japanese markets though with a UK release expected sometime after the New Year, this isn’t confirmed though.
