Sony PS3 and PSP price cuts
Rhys - August 18th, 2011 12:02 PM
Sony has slashed the PS3 price to £199 and is launching a cheaper version of the PSP.
The new pricing was announced at GamesCon, Sony’s press event, this year taking place in Cologne, Germany. In an official blog post Sony has said the PS3 is now meant to be “more accessible than ever”. Furthermore, its been estimated that some retailers, mainly supermarkets, will be cutting the price even further, perhaps below the £180 mark. UPDATE: Play.com has the 120GB model for £185.99 and 160GB model for £189.99.
The UK pounds sterling price for the new budget PSP hasn’t yet been revealed, but will be for sale for €99 in Euro countries. The new model, dubbed the PSP E-1000 loses its WiFi support but still features a UMD drive to play all of the PSP’s disk games. For downloaded content, users will need to connect the unit to a PC in order to download digital titles from Sony’s Media Go service. Reports have said the new model is slightly heavier and will come in a matte black finish.
The price reductions come as no surprise to many, the Xbox 360 is available online in many places for under £200 and Nintendo are set to release the new Nintendo Wii for Christmas.
