The, previously known, Sony Xperia Pepper has now been unveiled as the Sony Xperia Sola. The new device features a 3.7-inch Reality Display as well as a 1GHz dual-core processor.

This announcement coincidently comes just a few days after the images and specs were leaked.

The new Sony Xperia device will feature a 1GHz dual-core processor, 5GB of internal memory, as well as a microSD card slot and 3D surround sound audio technology.

Other specifications include aGPS and NFC technology, the latter being very welcome indeed.

The camera that’s going to be featured on the Sony Xperia Sola is a 5MP camera with 720p HD video recording.

The only disappointment here, for us, is the 1320mAh battery and the inclusion of Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

However, fear not, Sony have confirmed that the Xperia Sola will receive an ICS upgrade during the summer.

Quite an exciting feature here is definitely Sony’s NFC technology. The included Smart Tags can be programmed with different settings so when you swipe them over your device, the handset settings will change accordingly.

The Sony Xperia Sola is set to arrive in UK stores during Q2 of 2012 and will fall into the mid-range price bracket. We’ll let you know nearer the time regarding the pricing.
