SuperSpeed USB 3.0 unleashed
Richard - July 11th, 2009 6:27 PM
It has been widely known for quite some time that a new super-fast USB standard would be released sometime in the future, but not many people saw an expected release date of a few weeks coming.
The New York Times is reporting that the hardware required to effectively mass-produce USB 3.0 chipsets is completed and the production could start as soon as within two months.
Citing sources in Japan, the New York Times claims NEC will be producing the new USB 3.0 interfaces from September and that computers with the new connector should be available before the end of the year.
Data transfers of up to 4.8Gbps are expected which will prove very useful for handling the transfer of the high-definition video. It is also expected to be more power efficient than USB 2.0 and also backwards compatible.
