The Cooler Master Storm Scout (Interior)
The interior is all steel and comes painted black. Compared to the bog standard grey interior of many cases, this certainly looks more appealing.
On arrival, all the accessories come packed in a box in the chassis, the manual can be found in the drive cage and a white card comes adhered to the motherboard tray. The card indicates where the stand-offs are to be installed for either MATX or ATX motherboards.
As noted on the previous page, a power supply is to be installed at the bottom of this case. A PSU sits on the four steel indented pedestals and there is also a large perforated section which aligns with a PSU fan. This perforated section is backed with mesh and allows for airflow into the power supply – whilst stopping dust entering in the process.
There is space for five 3.5” hard drives to be installed and by using the included converter; you can also install a 2.5” / 1.8” drive in one of the bays. The way in which a hard drive is installed is quite standard now, they mount onto two drive rails and slide into the bays. Directly in front of the hard drive bay is a 140mm Red LED fan or space for a 120mm one.
As for the 5.25” bays, there are five allocated slots. To install a drive in one of the slots, it’s tool-less on the left-side, but not on the right side. For a real secure installation you will also need to install screws on the right-side of the drive bay. In one of the five slots, there is a 5.25” to 3.5” adapter installed; this allows you to install a card reader or FDD reader.
As you can see there is a 140mm standard fan installed to the top panel.
The rear of the chassis has many holes and clips installed on the motherboard plate for cable routing. A nice feature is the large cut-out which is positioned beneath where a processor would be mounted. This allows you to install a back-plate without removing the motherboard. As many high-end CPU Coolers require a back-plate, this is a really useful feature.
