Testing and Results

Hardware used for testing

  • iPhone 3G – Firmware 3.0

Methodology

To test the speakers, I selected two different types of music to test both the bass and treble of the system to its limits.  This test isn’t scientific but gives you a good idea as to the performance and overall quality of the speaker.

Results

Music:

Demi Lovato – Here We go Again:  Demi Lovato’s musical influences are bands such as Paramore and other rock, pop, metal bands.  So a wide range of musical genre’s can be heard in her music.  The song “Here We Go Again”, is from her new album.  The song has a fair amount of bass in it, and the speakers proved to be able to cope with it as i tested at a quiet volume and at full blast and the speakers did not distort the sound at all and were almost better than my Logitech X530’s connected to my computer.

Calvin Harris – We’re Not Alone:  Calvin Harris’ type of music is more dance music than anything else, with the synthesisers and dance drum rhythms.  I expected this song to be a bit of a challenge for the speakers as full volume on my computer starts to become a little distorted with this song but “We’re Not Alone” sailed through and didn’t distort at all even at full blast.

I was very surprised at these results mainly because of the fact that these speakers are 2.1 and my computer’s are 5.1 but they are remarkably similar in sound quality.  The built in subwoofer on the system is top-notch and you cannot fault it, you could even go as far as saying that the quality is too good for iPod/iPhone Speakers!

One thing I did find was that with my Crystal Hard Case covering my iPhone, the connection was not as good as when i removed it, maybe because the plastic is very thick on the bottom.  Not to do with the speaker in any way I think but it could be very annoying having to remove your protective casing on your device (If you have one) every time you want to use the dock.
