Nexus RX-8500 850W Power Supply

This 850W Nexus PSU comes in what seems to be a nickel plated metallic finish. I say this as it’s indeed very shiny and so is a magnet for fingerprints. Therefore, when handling this power supply, it would be a good idea to handle it from the edges.

In terms of size, this unit is about average ATX format. It measures 16.5cm in length – not too big; not too small. This means this PSU would be ideal for use in both MATX and ATX systems.

With the RX-8500 upside down we can see a large 135mm fan dominating the top. A wire fan grill conceals this so that cables or even fingers cannot wonder into the whirring fan. This fan has been recorded to operate at noise levels of just over 15dBA. Now that’s what I call silent.

On the side which you can see in the photo above – the left side – a small sticker can be seen. This is the warranty sticker. Once this is broken, your warranty is voided.

Flipping the unit over, we can see that the opposing side, here – as usual – the power specifications are listed in table format to ensure no problems arise. If this PSU was mounted the common way in your case, this is the side you’d seen – better than the opposing bare side I suppose.

The rear of the Nexus RX-8500 PSU sports a honey comb grill – much better than a whirring 80mm fan – a power switch and plug socket.

As this power supply is modular, at the front of the unit you will find all the modular connectors. The yellow connectors are strictly for PCI-E cards whereas the clear ones are for peripheral and drive power. To avoid confusion, the connectors which should be plugged into each socket are listed below each socket.

For this reason, we thought some i5 testing using our trusty CoolIT Domino was in order. Let’s see if the performance from the Domino still survives in this day and age…

Coolink Lapchilla Laptop Cooler

Laptop technology has advanced greatly over the years with different releases of more powerful and compact systems constantly replacing the top notebooks of the year before. However, improving the performance of laptops usually has the knock on effect of producing more heat and so users will commonly seek advice in order to better cool their laptop. An often used approach to this problem is a Laptop Cooler.

However, most laptop coolers do more than simply draw hot air from your system. Many laptop coolers also have become a key feature in making the experience of using a portable machine at a desk more comfortable overall. Zaward Golf Fan II

Many of you wouldn’t have heard of Zaward before and don’t feel disheartened if you’re one, they’re a fairly new company specializing in specifically computer cooling. One of the most innovative products in their catalogue is what’s called the ‘Golf Fan II’. Unlike most case fans, the Golf Fan 2 features a patent golf-ball-like texture on its fins which according to Zaward reduces noise levels by 15% at the same RPM and airflow. Now I’ve reviewed a lot of case fans in my day and many boast large claims like this, to find out whether Zaward’s marketing department are not just playing about, let’s put it to the test and find out whether it’s true to its word.
