NZXT Whisper (Internals)
Similar to many enclosures, the side panel easily slides off after undoing two thumbscrews. The side panel itself has a thick layer of foam attached to it with the purpose of dampening noise and vibrations produced from the fans and components; a clear example of NZXT’s attempt to reduce the noise to a minimum.
Upon undoing this it is evident that the Whisper is clearly divided into two parts – a chamber for the motherboard and 5.25” bays and a chamber for the PSU and other drives. This may explain the three system fans at the back as there is a need for system airflow in both chambers.
The disadvantage of this two chamber design is that the 120mm fan at the front can only act as an intake for the bottom compartment. This could be a problem as many enthusiasts will want an intake for the top section as well so as to keep temperatures as low as possible.
The lower chamber can house the whopping total of nine hard drives. Yes, you’re right, why would anyone need nine HDDs? Well, the simple answer is – I have no idea! Despite this, I suppose the NZXT Whisper could make an ideal data storage case as is has a huge amount of space for vast amounts of data to be stored.
