Setup and Testing

The Software

As with most computer mice, by just plugging the OCZ Behemoth in the plug-and-play functionality of the mouse can be witnessed. This entails the DPI button, back and forward buttons and the usual functions.

However when using the software you are able to customize the mouse more so. All the changes made using the software are saved to the mouse directly. This means that the software, nor any drivers, needs to be installed.

The first screen in the software allows you to change the functions of all the different buttons. These different button commands can be assigned to certain profiles (FPS Gaming, On-Line Games etc), therefore allowing you to quickly change settings when swapping genre of game.

The second screen (Configuration), allows you to adjust DPI to the settings given. These increase from 100 to 3200 – increasing in increments of 100 each time.

Surface Response

I tested the OCZ Behemoth on three different surfaces: a wooden desk, a hard surface mouse pad (XTracPads Hammer) and a soft-surface pad (XTracPads Hybrid). On all three of the surfaces the mouse performed extremely well and didn’t have any problems at all. The OCZ Behemoth performed best on the soft-surface pad, then the hard-surface and finally the wooden desk.

Performance

During games testing – Far Cry 2 and Crysis I tried out the different profile switching capabilities. This ability was a luxury in-game and also was the dpi button. It allowed me to adjust from a fast paced gaming style to a slow precise one with ease. This was beneficial in scoring those all important headshots. Unfortunately I didn’t get that many though due to my poor gaming.

Durability

After half a week of constant gaming and internet usage the OCZ was not showing any signs of wear. However, I did notice the feet attracting a lot of dust in this short time.

Comfort

In terms of comfort my hand moulded naturally to the shape of the Behemoth and so it was very comfortable. If you have fairly large hands – like myself – you’ll seriously love this rodent as you will be able to fit the whole mouse in your palm – without squashing up your fingers or having to hover your palm atop the mouse.
