Closer Inspection: OCZ ModXStream Pro 600 Watt
The OCZ ModXStream 600W is a relatively short fella’ measuring just fewer than 16cm in length. This is actually the average for an ATX PSU, however, compared to higher wattage units it looks tiny! In terms of colour scheme, it shares a similar dark grey colour as the OCZ Fatal1ty we reviewed not so long ago.
The right side of the power supply lists all the power specifications in table format. When the ModXStream is installed within your system chassis this will be the side in view.
Dominating the bottom of the power supply there is a large 140mm fan. OCZ have advertised this fan as ‘ultra-quiet’, we’ll find out if this is true later on. The fan is enclosed with a nickel plated wire fan grill with an OCZ badge glimmering in the centre.
The left side of the unit simply has a sticker which follows the red and black colour scheme witnessed on the box. Here all the stickers which report the test passes are presented.
Moving to the front you can see OCZ has ditched the 80mm fan. Seen as PC Power and Cooling – a company partnered with OCZ – speak of an 80mm fan being the ‘correct’ cooling solution for power supplies, it’s a bit strange seeing one not installed. Nevertheless, many of us hate 80mm fans and a complete honeycomb grill solution like this one when used in conjunction with an 120/140mm fan does the job of extracting hot air much well.
At the rear there are six modular sockets. The red sockets are for PCI-E; whilst the black sockets are for peripheral power.
