Cables and Connectors

All of the cables on the PC Power Cooling Silencer 750 Watt are braided in black with black heat shrunk ends. This improves airflow inside your system case. The peripheral power cables i.e. SATA and Molex, are braided only up to the first connector. This allows the cables to be more flexible.

As for connectors, all the SATA and PCI-E connectors use black connectors whilst the others use the standard translucent ones. It would have been nice for all the connectors to be one colour, although this isn’t too much of a concern.

The cables and connectors present are as follows:

  • 1x ATX 20/24 Pin
  • 1x CPU 4 Pin
  • 1x Motherboard 8 Pin
  • 2x PCI-E 6 Pin
  • 2x PCI-E 6/8 Pin
  • 2x 3x SATA
  • 2x 3x Molex
  • 1x 2x Molex + 1x Floppy

The ATX connector is of the 20 or 24 pin variety. This means that it is backwards compatible with old motherboards. The extra four pins are simply snapped into place when needed.

The 4 Pin CPU power cable is a singular cable and does not have four extra pins which can be attached for 8 pin motherboards. Instead, there is a single 8 Pin cable to cater for this. In my opinion, this is a better as the connectors are then easier to attach and is a lot less fiddly when removing the connector.

The PCI-E connectors come in two flavours with this power supply. There are two 6 pin PCI-E connectors and two 6/8 pin connectors. This gives you the most freedom when connecting your graphics cards(s).

For this reason, we thought some i5 testing using our trusty CoolIT Domino was in order. Let’s see if the performance from the Domino still survives in this day and age…

Coolink Lapchilla Laptop Cooler

Laptop technology has advanced greatly over the years with different releases of more powerful and compact systems constantly replacing the top notebooks of the year before. However, improving the performance of laptops usually has the knock on effect of producing more heat and so users will commonly seek advice in order to better cool their laptop. An often used approach to this problem is a Laptop Cooler.

However, most laptop coolers do more than simply draw hot air from your system. Many laptop coolers also have become a key feature in making the experience of using a portable machine at a desk more comfortable overall. Most coolers provide an elevated position for the actual laptop which usually features a sort of incline to the keyboard, thus allowing comfortable angles for typing during the longer sessions at the computer.

Zaward Golf Fan II

Many of you wouldn’t have heard of Zaward before and don’t feel disheartened if you’re one, they’re a fairly new company specializing in specifically computer cooling. One of the most innovative products in their catalogue is what’s called the ‘Golf Fan II’. Unlike most case fans, the Golf Fan 2 features a patent golf-ball-like texture on its fins which according to Zaward reduces noise levels by 15% at the same RPM and airflow. Now I’ve reviewed a lot of case fans in my day and many boast large claims like this, to find out whether Zaward’s marketing department are not just playing about, let’s put it to the test and find out whether it’s true to its word.
