Stability

From the 3.3v rail results you can see the PC Power and Cooling Silencer has a slightly higher 3.3v rail than some of the competing power supplies. This left the unit not scoring that well on this rail.

PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750W PSU Review

This is where things start to get impressive. As you can see, the Silencer scores second place on its 5v load rail. At idle it comfortbly wins joint first with the Nexus RX-8500.

PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750W PSU Review

As for the 12v rail it flaws every other power supply in the roundup by scoring a stable 12.09v.

PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750W PSU Review

The rails on this power supply aren’t just close to their rated voltages though; they’re also very stable. Both the 12v and 5v rail didn’t fluctuate at all and the 3.3v rail fluctuated by just 0.01v.

Efficiency

PF Standby PF Idle PF Load Watts Standby Watts Idle Watts Load
Signature 650W 16 84 91 7 94 139
Commander 850W 24 77 85 9 98 142
RX-8500 850W 20 70 81 6 96 142
Turbo Cool 860W 19 80 86 9 100 143
M12D 850W 43 87 91 8 94 137
Revolution85+ 950W 25 90 94 9 97 140
Quattro 1000W 16 86 91 9 104 148
Fatal1ty 700W 20 83 90 9 97 142
Silencer 750W 48 88 92 8 95 142

As you can see from the power factor (PF) results, the Silencer 750 Watt performed outstandingly. It scored a top power factor of 48 at standby and managed to win second in idle and load results. This power factor meant that wattage was relatively low due to the PSU making the most of the power it draws.

Noise

Throughout testing I kept checking the fan to make sure it was spinning. Why? Because PC Power and Cooling have done it again… they’ve made an 80mm fan completely silent.

Cost

Right, now hold your jaw and read. The PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750 Watt retails at £120 inc. VAT. That’s about £20-30 over a similar high performance power supply of this wattage. I guess the phrase ‘you get what you pay for’ is true here.
