PC Power and Cooling Turbo-Cool 860W

The Turbo Cool 860 measures just 15cm in length – slightly shorter than the standard ATX PSU. It features a matte black scratch resistant finish. Personally I prefer this sort of paint job as it’s much more robust and long lasting than thin – but shiny – paint finishes.

As you can see, there is no 120mm fan atop this power supply. According to PC Power and Cooling, the 80mm fan at the rear is a much more suited cooling solution for PSU’s. Many will disagree to this claim though. Instead of the 120mm fan atop, a power specifications sticker, SLI logo and test sticker is present.

An unusual feature on the top of the unit is three small holes (one is hidden below the test sticker) which correspond with 3 small potentiometers below. These allow the user to adjust the DC output rail voltages to obtain a fine tuned voltage. When we test this power supply later on, we’ll use the factory settings to obtain our voltages to keep the testing consistent with the other PSU’s in our roundup.

Flipping the entire unit over, you can see that the reverse side is completely bare. However, you may notice that alike the right side; the left side has a slotted grill too to improve airflow.

At the front of the PC Power and Cooling Turbo-Cool 860W is an 80mm fan with black fan grill, an oversized power switch and the usual kettle type power connector. This solid frontage is a good example of the solid industry standard this unit strives to be.

Moving to the rear you’ll find a large mesh area with the intended purpose of drawing air through. As the Turbo Cool isn’t modular, this PSU has a vast array of cables leading from the unit itself.

For this reason, we thought some i5 testing using our trusty CoolIT Domino was in order. Let’s see if the performance from the Domino still survives in this day and age…

Many of you wouldn’t have heard of Zaward before and don’t feel disheartened if you’re one, they’re a fairly new company specializing in specifically computer cooling. One of the most innovative products in their catalogue is what’s called the ‘Golf Fan II’. Unlike most case fans, the Golf Fan 2 features a patent golf-ball-like texture on its fins which according to Zaward reduces noise levels by 15% at the same RPM and airflow. Now I’ve reviewed a lot of case fans in my day and many boast large claims like this, to find out whether Zaward’s marketing department are not just playing about, let’s put it to the test and find out whether it’s true to its word.
