I know this is one of the first things that people consider when buying a laptop/netbook and rightly so, what’s the point in having a portable pc if you can’t actually take it anywhere. This is another great feature of the Samsung Chromebook Series 5. According to Samsung, the battery life is anything up to 8.5 hours and, to be honest, I don’t doubt this.
I managed to get just under 7.5 hours with pretty much constant use. Obviously if you start streaming videos for long periods of time then the battery will drain a lot quicker, but in general the battery life is very impressive and is exactly what you should come to expect from these kinds of devices.
The Samsung Chromebook Series 5 works a little differently in terms of the conventional laptop/netbook. Normally, you would install software from a CD or download from the internet; not with Chrome. With the Chrome OS you get the Chrome Web Store, this works in the same way as the Android market or Apple’s App Store. Simply open the Web Store, search for which ever program you desire; Twitter, Facebook, Angry Birds etc… You simply click install, and a few seconds later it’s saved to your cloud account. If you can’t find what your looking for on the store and there’s no suitable replacement, give it a little time. Like the smartphone App stores, applications are being added on a daily basis.
