Installation (AMD)
All installations, both Intel and AMD require the installation of a backplate. If you’re building a new computer this is no problem, however, if you’re simply upgrading, this can be a little annoying.
The first stage of the AMD installation is to secure the mounting clips to the base using four screws. As you would expect, this isn’t exactly tedious work.
I then positioned the backplate so the holes of the backplate lined up correctly with my motherboard’s ones. After, I inserted the screws to keep the plate in position.
Now this was the slightly trickier part. I had to line the screws up with the holes on the mounting clips. Once they had found the placement though, it was just a matter of screwing them all up tight.
The Mugen 2 thereafter was incredibly secure to my motherboard and certainly dominated it.
All that was then needed to do was to secure the fan. The fan can be installed on either sides of the heatsink. I chose to install it in the obvious position which most users will probably choose. I would’ve liked to install another fan adjacent to the one installed, however, Scythe do not provide any additional fan mounts nor another Slip Stream fan.
As you can see from the photo below, there may be some clearance issues for users with tall memory ‘sinks. Fortunately my RAM is very short and doesn’t go any higher than the actual clips and so is not a problem. But for users who have extended RAM such as OCZ’s Reaper sticks or Corsair’s Dominator, the likely chances are that they will not fit below the fan and so you will have to change the placement of the fan.
