Conclusion
The phrase ‘bigger is better’ has definitely proved correct in the Scythe Mugen 25. In all tests it proved itself as a worthy CPU cooler. In the temperature tests it made a bold statement at being very efficient when cooling at higher processor stress levels; this would make it ideal for an overclocker or gamer.
With most coolers, you’re normally made to sacrifice quietness for cooling performance. However the Mugen 2 is an anomaly, in fact, it was the quietest out of all three coolers tested. We could hardly hear it at all! It would therefore be a perfect cooler for someone willing to build a silent system.
Changing note slightly, there are a couple of problems with the Scythe Mugen 2 – it’s not all perfect. First off, installation can prove slightly tedious and annoying for many users. However, with a cooler weighing a whopping 870g, I’d definitely want something more than a couple of pins or a single clip securing it. Therefore, even though the installation maybe a little lengthier than most coolers, it’s certainly worth the hassle.
Also, the lack of fan clips provided was a bit of a disappointment. For a price of £43 at QuietPC.com, you’re right; you do get a lot for your money. However, surely to add a couple more fan clips it’s not going to break the bank.
Bottom Line: If you’re an overclocker, gamer, silence freak or practically any type of computer enthusiast, you’ll love the Scythe Mugen 2 and with a price tag of £43, it would definitely be a good investment.
