The SteelSeries 5H v2 Gaming Headset

The SteelSeries 5H v2 is constructed totally from plastic and feels very robust. It’s available in black or white – the one I’ve been sent for review is the white model.

Both ear pieces are very large and sport very thick ear cushions to help with comfort and noise isolation. They’re also detailed with the SteelSteries and 5H v2 logo.

The microphone can be hidden away in a hole in the left earpiece. This is very useful as it means it can be tucked away when eating, drinking or when it’s not needed.

Once the microphone is extended you can see it’s built onto a flexible metal rod which is covered with plastic. This protects the cables for the microphone and also gives it a more sleek and robotic-like appearance.

Looking more closely at the 5H v2’s microphone’s casing you can one side is white and the other is black. On both sides though there are holes to pick up noise. Therefore, it would probably pick up close background noise as well as your voice.

The SteelSeries’ headband features a very thick cushion. This allows it to comfortably sit on your head for long periods of time. Perfect for hardcore gamers! We’ll find out later for sure just how comfy it is.

Like most headsets, the SteelSeries 5H v2 can be adjusted in terms of height for larger and smaller head sizes. This too improves the overall comfort.

One special feature the 5H v2 gaming headset boasts is its ability to be disassembled into three different parts. This is very simple to do and makes transporting it at a LAN much easier.

Halfway down the headphone and microphone cable, which is sleeved in cloth, is a small controller. The controller allows you to adjust headphone volume levels as well as selecting three microphone levels: high, low and off. We didn’t notice much difference, if any, between the high and low settings however.
