Methodology

To test speakers we use them at mixed bass and volume levels in different media scenarios: music, movies and games. Although this test isn’t scientific, it’s a good indication on the speakers’ performance. However, as with most peripherals, I suggest you take these results lightly, as personal preference will be the main basis for choosing speakers.

Results

Music: La Roux – In for the Kill

This track has a mixture of both high and low pitches with heavy bass in many parts. This track surely tests these speakers in all departments.

When trying the Teufel’s out I was unimpressed with the amount of bass given. For such a large subwoofer, I was expecting much better results. This was even so with the bass set to the maximum output possible. However, it’s not all bad, the volume of the speakers proved to be miraculous without them distorting at the maximum volume possible and believe me, the maximum volume is more than just loud!

Movie: Tears of the Sun

This is a typical Bruce Willis film with him acting as Navy S.E.A.L veteran A.K. Walters. Lots of gun shots, explosions and typically action packed.

Again, I was slightly disappointed. Normally when watching this film with my Logitech Z4’s there’s a great sense of verisimilitude; this wasn’t the case with the Teufels. The explosions were lacking depth and the vocals weren’t crystal clear.

Game: Race Driver: GRID

Roaring engines from American muscle and whines from Formula cars, this game is a great test of sound.

This was the test that really impressed me. The sound was much more realistic than the output from my Z4’s due to a realistic amount of bass being given and the quality of the sound was impressive. Moreover, they don’t distort at high volumes, so you can quite easily persuade your neighbours in thinking they live next door to a race track.
