XtremeMac TRX Speaker Dock: Testing and Verdict

Pairing your device up with the XtremeMac Tango TRX couldn’t be simpler, simply switch the source to Bluetooth and connect using your device. Once paired, just fire up some music and it effortlessly plays from the speaker dock. I was quite surprised to find I didn’t need to use the iPod application, as Spotify is my preferred music player. Using the free Tango TRX you also have access to a graphics equalizer with five preset settings and an App alternative to the remote control.

The sound quality offered was quite a surprise for the price tag. The volume available is nice and loud with limited distortion, great for house parties. Further, with the addition of the subwoofer you also get some punchy bass for those body popping moments. The detail in the sound isn’t as clear as it could be, its often over powered by the mid range drivers, so picking out individual notes isn’t an easy task, but in retrospective, with the £150 price tag you aren’t going to find many speaker docks with note perfect rich sounds, you’re looking at spending at least double that.

Verdict

The XtremeMac Tango TRX is a really good product, upon firing up some tunes the sound quality was immediately a shock, this little fella packs some punch. You’ve got the bass to shake your Nan’s false teeth out, the volume to start a rave and the sound quality for those more subtle times.

The addition of the App is another welcomed inclusion to the standard remote control. There aren’t many docks that include an equalizer, especially in this price range so it’s certainly a nice add on.

While the sound quality could be slightly improved at higher volume and the overall clarity throughout the range, for £150 you aren’t going to get any better.
