The Zalman CNPS9900 LED Flower CPU Cooler

The Zalman CNPS 9900-LED uses Zalman’s iconic flower design which is highly favoured by the company and many enthusiasts. It’s a design which situates a fan in the centre of two pure copper heatsinks. Airflow is then forced through the fins of one heatsink and exhausted from the fins of the other.

On arrival, a large plastic band is secured around the central circumference of the heatsink. Zalman reinforce on their website that this band should be removed and is only intended for protection while shipping. To remove the band it’s very easy – just a couple of screws secure it.

When removed, you can see the heatsink in full size. Each ‘sink is made up of thin pure copper fins to save on weight and to also reduce airflow resistance.

On the front heatsink side (where air is drawn in), there is one copper heatpipe flowing through all the fins and through the copper base; on the rear heatsink side (where air is exhausted), there are two copper heatpipes, which also flow through all fins and the base. These heatpipes are what dissipate the heat to the fins and keep the shape of the cooler. As they are pure copper, they give very impressive thermal conductivity.

Situated in the centre of both heatsinks is a blue LED fan. The fan is secured to the rear heatsink with a plastic mount. Powering the fan is a four pin PWM (pulse width modulation) connector; however, if your motherboard does not support this new technology, it can also be used in the same way as a 3pin connector.

The base of the Zalman CNPS 9900 is constructed using an aluminium top part and a pure copper base. The actual base is polished giving it a very reflective appearance, thus allowing it to transfer heat more quickly.

However, processors have quickly moved on since July and we’ve got the likes of the Intel Core i7 and recent i5 dominating the market. For this reason, we thought some i5 testing using our trusty CoolIT Domino was in order. Let’s see if the performance from the Domino still survives in this day and age…

Coolink Lapchilla Laptop Cooler

Laptop technology has advanced greatly over the years with different releases of more powerful and compact systems constantly replacing the top notebooks of the year before. However, improving the performance of laptops usually has the knock on effect of producing more heat and so users will commonly seek advice in order to better cool their laptop. An often used approach to this problem is a Laptop Cooler.

However, most laptop coolers do more than simply draw hot air from your system. Many laptop coolers also have become a key feature in making the experience of using a portable machine at a desk more comfortable overall. Most coolers provide an elevated position for the actual laptop which usually features a sort of incline to the keyboard, thus allowing comfortable angles for typing during the longer sessions at the computer.

Zaward Golf Fan II

Many of you wouldn’t have heard of Zaward before and don’t feel disheartened if you’re one, they’re a fairly new company specializing in specifically computer cooling. One of the most innovative products in their catalogue is what’s called the ‘Golf Fan II’. Unlike most case fans, the Golf Fan 2 features a patent golf-ball-like texture on its fins which according to Zaward reduces noise levels by 15% at the same RPM and airflow. Now I’ve reviewed a lot of case fans in my day and many boast large claims like this, to find out whether Zaward’s marketing department are not just playing about, let’s put it to the test and find out whether it’s true to its word.
