Testing

To test GPUs we use 3DMark06 to calculate a synthetic benchmark score which is then compared to other graphics cards. This test is carried out with the card at stock speeds.

We then also test the graphics card in a number of games. Obviously the card with the best highest FPS is the better card.

When overclocking the graphics card we increase the values by 10 each time. The overclocked speed we achieve is based on the card being at its highest possible stable speed in game.

Unfortunately we don’t have the equipment to measure sound levels (dBA). Therefore, all noise tests are based on the results from my very own human ear.

All performance tests are carried out three times. An average value is then calculated from the three results.

For comparison purposes we’ve picked a mid-range graphics card (Sapphire 4850) and a low-range graphics card (9500GT).

All results are calculated using the setup below:

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ Stock
Motherboard Asus P5K Premium
RAM 2x 1GB Geil Black Dragon 6400
HDD Western Digital SE16 500GB
Power Supply Antec Neo-Power 550W
Operating System Windows XP 32bit
Graphics Driver GeForce Release 182.50
Case Lian Li V1000 Plus
Fan Configuration 1x Rear 120mm, 1x Front 120mm
Comparative Cards Sapphire Vapor-X 4850

Zotac 9500GT

The games which we’ll be testing the GTX 285 on today are the following:

  • Crysis
  • Racedriver: Grid

N.B. We’ll be testing this graphics cards on more games in the near future.
